Deepening Motivational Interviewing Skills 2024

Online - 11 November 2024

9.00 am - 3.30 pm

This training is held once per annum

What is motivational interviewing?

“Motivational interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to, a specific goal, by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion” (Miller & Rollnick, 2012).

This workshop is the next step for people who have already attended the 2-day Motivational Interviewing (MI) workshop provided through Grow with Eileen Britt, who want to strengthen their existing skillset.  The training is designed as a step-up to further develop participants’ skill and confidence in the practical application of MI.

The workshop will invite and challenge participants to look deeper, to use more complex reflections, to be more attuned and strategic in their evocation of, and responses to, change to talk and to reflect on their own practice. Experiential exercises, live demonstration, audio, video, and coaching will be used to develop participants MI skills and confidence. In this workshop it will be assumed that all participants having completed the 2-day training are familiar with the spirit, processes, and skills of MI.

Those attending this workshop must have already attended the Motivational Interviewing two-days of training. If you have not already completed these workshops, click here to visit the website for the dates, locations and workshop information.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Increase ability to use the micro-skills within the four processes of MI

  • Deepen understanding and ability to demonstrate the evoking process

  • Strengthen ability to hear, elicit and strengthen change talk

  • Introduction to the MITI 4.2.1 coding system to allow for increased learning of MI

Spaces are limited. Contact us today to make a pencil booking if you are seeking funding approval.

We recommend that this workshop is taken at a later date, sometime after you have completed the two-day workshop, to give you the time to put into practice what you have learnt and build up your learning.
