Introduction to the GROW Model of Coaching, ZOOM workshop
21 June
9am - 12noon

This half day session with Prof Bruce Arroll is specifically designed for everyday general coaching or in a medical setting, with limited time to work with a client/patient. It will introduce the GROW model of coaching with its 50+ questions many of which are very powerful and can bring step changes, insight and action.
The power of coaching is that it allows the client to pressure test their thoughts and ideas. There is a magic to confidentially speaking your thoughts and ideas out loud to another trained person. It enables these thoughts and ideas to be pressure tested and new avenues can emerge.

Learning Objectives

  1. To understand what is (organisational) coaching versus mentoring.

  2. To understand what is involved in the GROW model of coaching: Grow- Reality-Options-Wrap up.

  3. To demonstrate the power of active listening & to listen for what is not being said.

  4. To demonstrate the maintenance of presence with the client.

  5. To analyse the power of partnering with clients.

  6. To create and deliver powerful questions.

  7. To demonstrate that talking to listening should be 10:90.

  8. To remember that the client is the one with the gold.

  9. To show how to establish agreements during the session(s).

  10. To create a step change in personal development using the client’s resources

The session will be in three parts:

  1. Introduction to coaching: what is it and what is it not and how it differs from mentoring or sports coaching.

  2. Go through the recording of an actual coaching session using the GROW questions and see how the powerful questions elicit powerful insights.

  3. Using the GROW question sheet work with a colleague to get a feel for coaching.
