ASAP Group EMDR for Healthcare Practitioners and First responders
Treatment for Vicarious Trauma and Moral Injury

The ASAP (Acute Stress Adaptive Protocol) is a group EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) group experience. It is an early intervention - you don’t need to have any symptoms to benefit from it, but it can prevent symptoms of Vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, burnout and even PTSD developing.

It is presented in a group, but everyone focusses on their own chosen process in their minds and don’t have to share anything whilst guided through the process by the facilitator. Therefor completely confidential.

The ASAP helps participants to take out big rocks from their back packs – one at a time – so they can go back to work and homes feeling lighter, recharged and keen to re-engage with their clients, patients, members of the public, friends and families.

It is facilitated from the angle of:

  • Paying attention to your emotional self-care without compromising your clinical competency and integrity.

  • Acknowledging that Healthcare Practitioners and First Responders are exposed to real-life critical incidents, trauma, tragedy, suffering and loss of others in their work environment.

  • Different individuals are affected differently.

  • Kindness, compassion and safety.

Our recommendation that this ½ day workshop is followed up on an alternate monthly basis.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand how our nervous system deals with direct or indirect exposure to events, memories, information that traumatises us.

  • Understand what Vicarious Trauma and Moral Injury is and why Frontline workers like healthcare Practitioners and First responders experience this.

  • Understand how EMDR works in general and how this is applied in group settings to provide it on a scaled level and with the added benefit of a sense of community and support with peers.

  • Experience the ASAP EMDR intervention for yourself and notice powerful shifts in your own thoughts and behaviour over a period of time.

  • Learn practical methods of mindfulness, self-regulation and self-compassion.

This workshop is worth 10 points/3.5 hours CPD.

What others have said

  • This is powerful stuff!

  • In the past, I had nightmares that related to this clients’ story of trauma. I felt so unsafe. That has not happened once since the ASAP.

  • I can now talk and think about the incident without feeling overwhelmed – something has definitely shifted for me.

  • Now I have hope for continuing with my work as therapist again. If I can unpack my backpack with this group method regularly, I will be able to recover from being burnout.

  • If feels like a weight has lifted from my shoulders.
