How to Manage Depression For Life

A webinar with Dr Giresh Kanji

Saturday, 13 February 2021

9.00am - 11.00 am - via ZOOM

How to Manage Depression for Life

This webinar is a follow-on from Dr Kanji's presentation Depression Unmasked.

Depression is like a broken arm. There is a timeline and at least five structural changes in the brain and body. The structural changes can be healed to prevent a lifetime of recurrent episodes. This webinar will take a deeper look at the role of the following to examine how we can effectively manage depression for life.

  • It will explore why people are prone to depression and how depression creates changes in the brain and the bodys' stress systems.
  • Why protecting sleep is imperative in the life-long management of depression, and the barriers to sleep.
  • The life-long habits to reduce the size of the stress brain and the practical science behind the benefits of exercise, yoga, Tai Chi, meditation, heat and meditation/breathing.
  • The role of medications in our lives - sleep medications, antidepressants and mood modification tablets .
  • The role of talk therapy and when should one engage in talk therapy.
  • The development of the following traits to increase resilience: Peace of mind / Honour / Kindness / Humility
  • A practical approach to treatment resistant depression will also be explored.

Workshop Aims

Dr Kanji draws directly from his own experience and his own research, and will present on the following topics in easy to understand language.

  • This webinar will encourage attendees to see the connections between common mental-health problems such as insomnia, anxiety and depression.
  • Explain the scientific evidence behind why the age-old solutions of exercise, sleep, slow-breathing, mediation and mindfulness work.
  •  As we are all different, examine a variety of methods for dealing with stress every day including drug-free solutions.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is for both health professionals and laypeople - those working with or supporting those with depression, and also those who want positive, long-term strategies and practical tips for managing their own depression.
