Harnessing the Power of Community

Community Engagement Strategies That Work

The Harnessing the Power of Community workshop will provide both a broad understanding of community engagement strategies and rationale along with the opportunity to learn how to apply an innovative new engagement planning tool called the Engagement Canvas for projects that you may be undertaking.

Recently launched by Business Lab, the Engagement Canvas was the focus of a number of workshops at the National Not for Profit Conference in February where feedback from workshop participants emphasised the user-friendly nature of the Canvas in breaking down a complex engagement project into manageable  and practical steps.  It helped users better understand the value of engaging externally and how this strengthens organisational direction, culture, and partnerships.

All organisations have a community of interest, be it a community of residents, a community of service providers, members, customers, businesses. Within each of these communities, there is power to be harnessed to supercharge your organisation’s efforts.  This workshop will take you through a tried and tested approach, underpinned by strong co-design principles, that effectively engage your community and motivates them to support the achievement of your organisational goals.

On completion of the Harnessing the Power of your Community engagement training workshop, you will take away a near-complete Engagement Canvas for a project you are responsible for. This will enable you to hit the ground running in kicking off your project successfully.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the engagement options and the reasoning for choosing each approach.
  2. Learn best practice principles and success factors that underpin effective community engagement
  3. Add user-friendly methods and tools to support your engagement activities including the Engagement Canvas planning tool
  4. Study real and relevant engagement success stories from around the country
  5. The opportunity to apply your learning to a project of your choosing and take away an engagement plan ready for implementation
