Online Group EMDR + Mindfulness Self Compassion
for Healthcare Practitioners

Support and skills training for people in helping professions – an intervention for Vicarious Trauma and Moral Injury

Online - 4 September, 9am - 3.30pm

Do you think you have symptoms of compassion fatigue, burnout, vicarious trauma, moral injury or PTSD?

Are you in a helping profession because this is where your passion and skills are? But you feel less energetic about your job because sometimes it just takes a lot out of you?

This workshop is for you.

Data shows that a very high percentage of people in the helping professions report symptoms of compassion fatigue, burnout, vicarious trauma, moral injury and even PTSD. This leads to job dissatisfaction, disengagement and disillusionment for a very needed workforce and a high turnover of staff. This makes sense, because people in helping professions are exposed to intense emotional and traumatic material and events – multiple times every day, week in, week out!

Comprehensive 1-day intensive programme - online for the first time

  • Understanding the impact of witnessing others’ suffering on people in helping professions

  • Introduction to Group EMDR (Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing) – how and why it works. How to follow the facilitator while it is applied to you.

  • G-TEP (processing big-, small-, old or new personal or vicarious traumas with the group traumatic experience EMDR protocol)

  • as well as G-REP (Group resource building) group EMDR session to focus on strengths and adaptive information in your nervous system

  • Mindful Self-compassion skills and experience

  • Experience group EMDR as a participant for yourself – silent, confidential, powerful. Feel the weight of vicarious trauma and moral injury shifting.

This is an experiential workshop.

You will feel the work happening in your nervous system and experience the difference after additional REM (rapid eye movement) sleeps.

You will also receive pre-workshop material to read, save and print for yourself.

Please note: This is not an EMDR training.

Interested in a private workshop for your team?

If your organisation is interested in hosting an in-house, face-to-face workshop for a group of participants by Wilmé, please contact us for more information.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand how our nervous systems deal with direct or indirect exposure to critical incidents.

  • Understand what Vicarious Trauma and Moral Injury is and why Frontline workers like Healthcare Practitioners and First Responders experience this.

  • Understand how EMDR works in general, and the benefits of doing it in a group.

  • Experience the ASAP for yourself and notice powerful shifts in your own thoughts and behaviour over a period of time.

  • Learn practical methods of mindfulness, self-regulation and self-compassion.

This workshop is worth 20 points/6.5 hours CPD.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is ideal for professionals who work in helping professions of any kind, including:

  • Doctors, psychologists, and psychiatrists

  • Nurses and community mental health nurses

  • Case workers and social workers

  • Counsellors and school counsellors

  • Teachers and school leadership teams

  • Youth workers

  • Corrections and youth justice workers

  • Dispatch and call centre operators

What others have said about previous workshops by Wilmé

  • This is powerful stuff!

  • In the past, I had nightmares that related to this clients’ story of trauma. I felt so unsafe. That has not happened once since the ASAP.

  • I can now talk and think about the incident without feeling overwhelmed – something has definitely shifted for me.

  • Now I have hope for continuing with my work as therapist again. If I can unpack my backpack with this group method regularly, I will be able to recover from being burnout.

  • If feels like a weight has lifted from my shoulders.
