We’re Inviting You to Join the Implementation Science Learning Community

It is widely recognized that it takes more than a good idea to make positive changes in the lives of those we serve, and the recent announcement by the Hon Grant Robertson that he was establishing an Implementation Unit within the Prime Ministers Office to get things done shows us how easily good ideas get stuck in the system.  It seems that we have great ideas but get bogged down in delivery.

Despite the good efforts and capabilities of talented officials, the work of Government agencies is often stalled meaning that changes / programmes just do not launch – or if successfully piloted, fall over without enough resources or a long-term vision for their move from proof-of-concept to a lasting change process.

Grow and our friends at Synergia (New Zealand’s leading analytics, consulting and evaluation group in health, social services, and the public sector) recognise that New Zealand is facing significant challenges over the next decade, and if we are to realise the aspirations we all have – we need to get better at implementation, execution and delivery.

To that end we are establishing the Implementation Science Learning Community – an informal group for professionals working in business analysis, project management, programme management, programme evaluation – or just wanting to get things done.

The Implementation Science Learning Community is an informal group that will offer regular workshops / case studies / presentations and information sharing around what is working in change projects.  What is not and ideas about how we can do better across Government activities.

Most of these will be free to attend, and there is no membership charge. We won’t spam you (promise). It will be a great opportunity to meet with others working in your sector and more importantly get worthwhile projects delivered.

The first free workshop will be:

Topic: Building Integrated Data Across Organisations: A how-to guide
When: Tuesday 20 July, 4.00pm - 6.00pm
Where: Mercure Wellington Abel Tasman Hotel (light refreshments provided)

Presenter: Paul Stephenson is a leader in the design and development of health services.  Initially working in senior health sector managerial roles in New Zealand and Australia, he has for the past 17 years been a Director of Synergia Ltd.   Paul specialises in consulting assignments requiring large scale change across organisations and professional groups.  His work has increasingly focused on how integrated data can improve collective performance across joined up systems.
