About the Presenter

Dr Samantha Newman

MBChB BSc (hons) PGDipOMG
Honorary Lecturer at the University of Auckland
Adjunct Research Associate at the University of Monash
Accredited MEDSAC

Samantha (Sam) qualified from Bristol University Medical School in 2010, and started her clinical training in North-west London, subsequently moving into Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist Training. In 2013, with her husband Sam moved to New Zealand and has been working as a GP since 2015. Her Hawkes Bay based clinic, the FemaleGP was established in 2016 to improve access to focused healthcare for women.

In 2020-2021 Sam was the Clinic Lead of a GP-led prolapse and incontinence clinic at Hawkes Bay Hospital and worked as a Forensic Medical Examiner for sexual assault for 6 years. This experience proved invaluable to her day to day practice, and focused her ambition to run a specialist clinic on menopause and women’s health.

Sam regularly meets with specialist health care providers in women’s health, particularly menopause and reproductive hormone medicine from all over the world, to ensure her delivery  of quality healthcare, both as a GP and as a specialist.

Health is influenced by physical health and mental health and these are significantly affected by hormones, which also change throughout a person’s life. Offering online webinars and face-face presentations and seminars, Sam applies a western medical approach looking at women as a whole. Her ambition is to make hormone and wellbeing information more accessible for all.

Based in Hawke's Bay with her daughter, husband and dogs, out of work Sam is either with her family, or running with friends.  She also loves baking and trying her hand at a variety of arts and crafts, particularly with her daughter
