Public facing employees today serve a far broader mix of people and personalities than almost any other profession. And by far, the majority of our community members are pleasant, cooperative, and appreciative of our services. A certain percentage, however, range from difficult, to demanding, to angry, to irrational, to downright intimidating. These individuals require special attention, special skills, and special strategies – if we are to interact with them effectively and make our workplace a safe and sane place for us to be and to feel good about.
This unique online workshop provides training in developing the actual verbal, emotional and physical interpersonal skills we all need to turn conflict into cooperation, and successfully deal with the most challenging types of people.
The workshop’s focus on real public sector work dynamics, and it’s unique, hands on – what to do – training emphasis goes to the heart of addressing a topic that concerns every public employee.

Now more than ever, during this lockdown uncertainty, we need resilience skills.
Resilience is the ability to bounce back – and move forward – from periods of change and adversity, stress and trauma, loss and disappointment, and often more importantly - the strain and intensity of just doing the “day-to-day” in today’s world.
We know that those that are more resilient actually - think, act, and interact with others - in ways that are different than those – who are less resilient.
Skills for greater resilience are behavioural, learnable, and achievable. They are skills that can be learned – and developed – like any other skill.

“Resilience is the ability to bounce back – and move forward – from periods of change and adversity, stress and trauma, loss and disappointment, and often more importantly - the strain and intensity of just doing the “day-to-day” in today’s world.”
When we look around, we recognize that many of the same rules and principles that apply to individuals – also apply to families, teams, partnerships, businesses, organisations, and countries.
Really. Look around.
Whether thinking in terms of individuals, families, small groups, or large organizations, our capacity for resilience is directly related to our capacity for flexibility, adaptability, productivity and longevity.

The incidences and threats of overt conflict in public workplaces have risen dramatically in recent years. This conflict ranges in severity from explosive verbal clashes to physical confrontations to mortal injury. While the possibility of conflict and violence in the workplace has always existed, recent news reports support the idea that the frequency and type of this “public” violence has taken a dramatic turn for the worst. The danger of workplace violence is increasing in situations where personnel are interacting with increasingly agitated, frustrated, or angry co-workers or members of the public, and/or involved in disciplinary or termination procedures and negotiation.
The use of effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills, not just simply as policy, is the key to diffusing volatile situations. In the event violence does erupt, people who are trained and prepared to quickly remove themselves, and others, from danger stand a substantially greater chance of avoiding injury and the emotional trauma associated with assault.
The session takes into account the mental, emotional, and physical factors essential to achieving a healthy workplace environment.
